Weekly Kitchen Insights – Recipes and Trends from Allrecipes.com

There’s a summer heat wave happening! All over the country, it seems. No surprise then, that favorite warm-weather, let’s-eat-outside-on-the-porch dishes made such a strong showing last week. Searches related to Independence Day (Allrecipes’ home cooks searched this holiday most often as “4th of July”) also brought huge numbers of visitors to the site. What were they hungry for? Pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and many homemade ice cream variations were among last week’s most popular recipes.

When we sorted all the searches, here’s what rose to the top:

Reviewing search terms, the fastest growing week-over-week term driving traffic to the site last week was “4th of July desserts.” It was followed by similar July 4th queries such as “Fourth of July recipes.” Also driving traffic to the site were searches for homemade ice cream, potato salad recipes, and baked beans recipes.

Among last week’s internal searches, the fastest growing search terms included 4th of July, peach ice cream, fruit pizza, and poke cake (a totally easy cake you poke holes into after baking, and then pour pudding or Jell-o over the cake so it has stripes when cut -- cool!).

There’s also no disputing summer is here after reviewing Allrecipes’ sizzling videos! (I bet you'll recognize some favorite recipes in the line-up.) Last week’s top new video--based on the most average plays per day the week after release--was Baby Back Ribs, a dish that's always a guaranteed winner for summer parties and family get-togethers. Other top summertime performers included:

Now I’m really hungry! What are you cooking for dinner?
